You can make a mural, too.

Inspiration comes from many places. The illustrations by Eric Carle, author of various childrens’ books like the  “Hungry Caterpillar” and “Where’s My Cat” inspired me to create some animals. Eric has short demonstrations and videos on his website explaining his process and encouraging you to make a mural, too.

Using the paints I had available (watercolor and gauche) and tissue paper, I created some beautiful textures. For this example, I followed Eric’s steps and drew my shapes, cut them out, and glued them to paper. The result is a very tactile looking elephant.

For my art, the next phase is to digitize the graphic and make the elephant interactive and move. For additional animals, I may decide to scan the entire sheet of paper and cut the shapes out on the computer.

More animals to come.
